Anasazi / Mimbres Replication Bowl of a Crouching Lion

US$95.00

Up for sale is a Mimbres bowl replication of what appears to be a crouching lion. The now extinct culture of the Mimbres once inhabited the southwestern deserts of America approximately circa 200 to 1150 A.D. Where this culture went, why they left, is a matter of speculation and conjecture. What we do know is that they left behind a legacy of wonderfully painted ceramic bowls which depict the natural world that surrounded them. The piece in consideration is that of a crouching lion with an elaborately rendered border reflective of the central design within the central core of the beast. This bowl was handmade and painted at Starling Black Studio in the White Mountains of Arizona. It was fired in an open dirt pit and emerged from the coal and ashes with rich fire clouds and a smoky patina that can be obtained only from these primitive techniques. A " kill hole'' was shot through the center.  Our goal at the Starling Black Studio is to recreate artifacts and designs from extinct cultures that are legal to own, available, and affordable to purchase. If you love archeology, have an appreciation for the rawness of primitive arts, then you will not be disappointed with the acquisition of “Crouching Lion Bowl” for the vessel appears, if not for the artist’s signature, to have just been uncovered at an anthropological dig.
