Anasazi /Mimbres Wolf Bowl Replication

US$85.00

The Mimbres Culture circa 200 to 1150 A.D. is believed to be related to the prehistoric Anasazi, but because of their geographic isolation their art took a divergent path of creativity which is evidenced by the remarkable small ceramic picture bowls they painted of the natural world that surrounded them. Upon this bowl is rendered a creature that appears to be a howling canine.  Is it a wolf, a coyote, or possibly a dog? Your guess is as good as mine for no written records exist to reveal the interpretation of these symbols. The tradition, language, and beliefs of this culture are all but forgotten and passed into obscurity and extinction. Starling Black Studio attempts to preserve the prehistoric arts by creating realistic appearing replications of original artifacts. Primitive techniques where used to develop this bowl; it was hand built, painted with homemade natural yucca brushes, and fired in a dirt pit using Juniper branches which rendered upon its surface rich fire clouds and a smoky patina.  The bowl was abraded, stained, chipped, and finished with a "kill hole" to create a realistic looking artifact reproduction. It is a rare person who can actually afford to purchase original artifacts and the majority of us need to travel hundreds of miles to a museum to see these artifacts from an extinct culture. This replication, “Howling Wolf Bowl” is an available and affordable alternative for anyone who appreciates the unique rawness and natural look of a prehistoric art from a bygone culture. Thank you for looking.
